Public relations of WFRC reported that in a training workshop on sociological theories of gender which was held by the prominent professor of Bordeaux University, Eric Mace, he pointed out that sexual relations, gender identity, and sexual appeal have not any symbolic cause and they are relative matters.
Regarding “traditional patriarchy”, “modern patriarchy” and “post-patriarchy” as three changing stages of this trend in western society, the researcher of social sciences told that modernity has transformed traditional patriarchy in the West into modern patriarchy and modern patriarchy itself has transformed as the result of internal conflicts and feminism and this model of patriarchy has been ruined by “anthropological changing of the principle of equality and individualism” and “illegal and unnecessary asymmetry of masculinity and Femininity”.
Stating that modern patriarchy has deeply changed by its internal conflicts, he pointed out that in the time of “modern patriarchy” inequalities, discriminations, violations, and gender stereotypes have still remained.
Professor Eric Mace told that the history of western society, until now, has seen fights and struggles to obtain equality including the fights between the black and the white in the United States as well as the fights between men and women for equality since 18th century.
He also clearly stated that now there is no inequality of men and women’s right in the Europe and any kind of inequality is blamed that we call it “post-patriarchy”, but while we emphasize that men and women in the Europe have equal rights, inequalities are still seen and discriminations in family organization exist.
Professor Eric Mace reminded that in the past, the women in the European society were dependent to their fathers and husbands; but now the European society is an individualist society and independence is defined equally for both men and women and historically there is no possibility to return to the past dependence and the complete independence has been created for women.
